Fisheries Economics Research Unit
Fisheries benefits for all generations
Through its research, training and partnerships,
mobilizing economics in particular, and the aquatic and other sciences
in general, FERU aims to advance the management of global aquatic
resources for the benefits of both current and future generations,
while maintaining 'healthy' ecosystems. The unit studies the economics
and management of both capture fishery resources, including related
resources in the marine and freshwater ecosystems, and aquaculture
resources. The unit's research is local, regional, national and
international in its scope. The study of these resources is interdisciplinary
by nature. Therefore, the unit works with partners and colleagues
from all over the world who are biologists, mathematicians, managers,
computer scientists, economists and other social scientists.
The new Fisheries Economics Research Unit logo,
capturing the balance between harvesting and preservation, was designed
by Mary Boone, who also designed the Fisheries Centre and Sea Around
Us logos.
